Those will get created when Amanda backs up Dataserv the first time. Nothing
to worry about when you add a new disklist entry, but you should be worried
if it pops up on something thats already being backed up.

If /home/amanda is mounted from a remote server, make sure
amanda can write to it.
Chances are you set it up as root and some or all of the

Easiest fix is probably add your user 'backup' to whatever
fer more data in memory.
Try dd-ing a large file from your disk to /dev/null, /dev/zero to
your disk, and /dev/zero to a blank tape, and see what the limits of
your particular hardware are.

you can first do an lcd to change destination directory)
Keep in mind that if you restore a directory it will clear the dest
dir before the restore, so newer files will disappear. It's safest
to always restore to a scratch dir and

If the last full dump was overwritten, shouldn't Amanda be trying
to schedule a level 0 anyway, since there is no level 0 to base
an incremental on?

Amanda is one of those one-offs in that it usually only gets invoked
once a day.

onus, it gives Amanda more pieces to rearrange to
level out daily tape usage. It may not be practical with hundreds
of directories, but 9 isn't very many to add, and is less likely

where to start looking?
I would start with checking forward/reverse name resolution on the
client. Adding it to the hosts file might be sufficient if your
nsswitch.conf file has files before dns for hosts.
