My concern is how friendly will Logitech be to the enthusiast scene?
Will they continue to put out the SlimServer for free? Will they try

These are my concerns, as this is what lead me to being a fan of SD.

They have no control over Slimserver, it's open source and they don't

When you playback Apple Lossless on Slimserver, it decodes it, either to

Using Digital
It you're using digital out to a DAC or your receiver, it's important
to note that SOME devices have a delay from the time they first start
receiving a digital stream up until they start actually decoding that
stream.
Since you aren't using a native format, you aren't getting

Under the Squeezebox device settings, audio tab, you've got an option
called preamp volume control, which attenuates output to the analog
outs only. Apparently this is to set a limit on how far you can turn up
the digital volume on Slimserver/Squeezebox remote; in other words,

So, my Transporter arrived - sounds and looks great! One thing: because
I am not using a line stage before my amp, I immediately opened the case
and moved the analog attenuation pins to -30db.
Well, with the volume bar half way across, it is loud as sin.
I am using XLR outputs. Does this
Another silly observation, but it brought back memories - the manual is
spiral-bound. I did that for several summers back in high school. I'd
say an 8 mm spiral where a 6 mm would do. Very easy to bind, I could do
300 of those an hour. The person doing it was rushing - the ends are

Answered my own question -- DUH. XLR is XLR and under a different
specification. The attenuaition thing is for RCA only. Good thing my
amp takes balanced or RCA.
Anyway, if anyone is curious, I set the attenuation to -30db. That's
too much. With the volume maxed out it's not exactly loud.

Question:
Well, I would argue, that if someone wants the whole story, theres no
real need to keep it a secret!
The SB (and Transporter) volume controls work on the digital signal,
before it goes to the DAC. The usual problem with this, is that as you
turn the volume down, you decrease the number of bit's
Transporter has super regulators for its power supply. Does this mean
there is no need to hook it up to power conditioners like Hydra /
