hello ligald, looking at your setup which is similar to my own i would
not describe them as a high end system products.
Linn and Naim do high end/expensive streamers.
i've never sought a so called high end setup which normally cost many
thousands !.
i'm very happy with my modest setup Ligald,as
This my first post, so please be gentle. :)
I've had my Squeezebox Duet for about a year now. Recently upgraded to
a Denon 3808ci and Axiom Audio M80s for stereo listening. I currently
have the SBR outputting to the Denon via toslink.
My entire library is FLAC encoded (dbPowerAmp).
I'm able to
Thank You for the info. That is great.
Clock injection with Airport Express is not possible. This one uses a
12MHz clock for a USB Receiver which generates spdif. Clock signal is
derived by PLL. So no exact multiple of BCK is possible.
There is a new way for my project. I couldn't sleep well
Hi Dennis,
How is your Transporter connected to the power amp, with RCA or XLR?
What kind of passive attenuation are you using? I had mine connected
via RCA (with built-in attenuation) and I'm upgrading to XLR by adding
external attenuators (I just ordered Endler's ones) and I'm very curious
to
Im not so sure there is no problem with Xporters...Considering I had to
go thru 3 to get one working one , 1st ones tactile knob was faulty and
the screen was 1/2 dead , 2nd ones had one screen die too.
However my local agents in Cape Town , South Africa , swapped em out
without a murmer.

Good morning Ligald,my Transporter is connected to my Preamp via Linn

my preamplifier(Timpano); is from a German audio company called Bonnec

they are hand built units and have a very low noise floor.

My Music server is made of:
Asus eeeBox with winXP Home, Softsqueeze 3.8, Squeezecenter 7.4,
Styleaudio Carat HD1V plus other hw of no importance for the question.
Now Squeezecenter offers the best web GUI, no doubt.
I want it, I need it. I need a web gui as i use a Sony PSP as a remote

You can get to the site OK, but there doesn't seem to be any way to
download the article, although it may be possible to buy a single issue
(?). You are looking for the June/July issue. Wish I could be of more
help.

Ahem...may I suggest our Mini DACPre? It's just within your budget with
XLR outputs (true balanced) and comes with volume control on the single
ended outputs. Plus it's brand-new, not used. The Wolfson has a
full-bodied sound signature with great bass and detail.

Regards,
Try it with the analog outputs instead. Need to determine if it's an
s/pdif issue or something with the decoding.
Also try playing the files on a PC - make sure it's not the source
material.

I'm currently at work but will give it a try tonight when I get home and
report back with my findings.
FYI. . it's the first minute of the Amnesiac song where the issue
surfaces. I tried running the FLAC file through Audacity to identify
clipping in the source to no avail.

Yes, the linux audio system doesn't do stupid crap like windows does.
It's also a much better platform to run squeezecenter on. Download
Ubuntu and give it a try.
Otherwise, you could get yourself a squeezebox.

You've got me worried now. I thought QC would be good enough on this
sort of product to make the chances of getting two defective units vary
rare.

I'm a little confused. I've all mp3-tracks notrmalized with replay
gain at max. level without clipping.
When I activate normalizing by title using replay gain if possible
all tracks with replay gain are too quiet.
Only activating normalizing off will result in correct levels!

It maybe,I noticed that tipically even the most respected bargage
doesn't go over 48Khz through usb; by now 16bit 44.1khz for me it's
enough.
Thank you Bye,

I wouldn't really bother with an outboard dac myself. Although I did
buy a transporter for a number of reasons including the better DAC.

kllngtme, you are on a well trodden path to better audio from your SB3.
i started with a SB3,then added an outboard NOS dac(Moodlabs
Concept).
i toyed with the alternative power supply idea but decided it really
wasn't worth the hassle.
with the sb3 etc plugged into my main system the end result
Looks like they allow the download of the current issue in pdf format,
however on the website they're still on the May/June issue. hopefully
will be posted soon. they also clearly provide a subset of their
reviews open-access online as well, so the Transporter may be in the
category as well.
First of all, audiophile and cheap don't usually go together.
I don't have anything near an audiophile setup, so I'm not going to
really push that end of the spectrum.
The Audioengine A5's have gotten a lot of good reviews here, and for
typical high end bedroom listening should be fine (but try

I opine that Audioengine speakers are no match for redwine modded SB3.
You need something like the Adam active speakers or the Dynaudio desktop
speakers. I personally do not understand the near obsession with the
Audioengine speakers, they sounded rather boomy to me. They may be good
