I spoke to Brent at Audio upgrades.
Turns out that:
a) you do need 2 oscillators;
b) my modded unit was wrongly installed using the old clock for
44.1/88.2 and the new clock (which was a 44.1 multiple not a 48
multiple) for 48/96;
c) this explains the fact that 48/96 did not work;
d) it means

I am going to strap myself to the mast like Ulysses. Anyway I haven't
watched ep 1 of mad men 4 from last night. Also I guess I could try

Looks like quit smoking is an easy task against. Good luck!
Thanks, but I had in mind something more slowly dawning rather than
immediate terror- sort of realising while lying on a deckchair on
holiday that you've forgotten to feed the crocodile and lock the back
door.

Back to the original theme- I am returning my touch to Audio upgrades.
Brent (the owner) tells me that he does not think there is a missing
48kHz oscillator but I am going to send the Touch back to him to
investigate. I am still haunted by the possibility that i may have

The fact that your Touch does not play either 48 or 96k files seems

Yes, 48 or 96 not working means there is a HIGH probability that the
24.576 clock is either not working or the mux that selects between the
two frequencies is not working.
There have been some SB3 modders that replace the 11.2896 crystal and
take out the 12.288 one, but they do tell you that
I checked the audioupgrades page and it looks like the mod replaces one
of the crystals (presumably the 22.5792) with a low jitter clock and
leaves the other one in place. That should still allow 48 and 96 to
work.

Yes the mods were by audiocom (and incidentally thanks for your advice
on that). I have also had a new clock put in the touch by audio

I should perhaps clarify that he reboot restores the touch and enables
the DAC to get a lock: it doesn't fix it in the sense of allowing me to
play the 24/48 file

Is there a way of doing that short of uninstalling squeezeserver and

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it
ain't what you'd call minimal...
A while ago I tried changing settings to convert flac to PCM on the
server. Recently I noticed that 24/96 files weren't playing and crashed
something- the dac ( modded mf x dac v3) loses lock and won't regain it
without restoring the touch to factory settings.
The problem is specific to 24/96:
Can you describe your Touch setup in detail. Also can you try a 48K
file?
Who did the X-DAC mods? (Audiocom?)
