Wolfgang,
I have the same problem. What I do is to add the machines to my dynamic
dhcp server so they get the same unique name no matter which ip address
they get. I have dhcp host entries for each NIC on the client (wired or
wireless). This works for us, but it does require you to set up a
Matthew,
On the server, try going into the directory of one of the files that

Can BackupPC use rsyncd like that, so I don't have to run rsyncd on
the laptop on untrusted networks?
Why doesn't anyone like running rsyncd on a windows box standalone? I
don't get it? Maybe i'm missing something. Many times i've seen posts to

Hello!
I'm trying to back up several notebooks in an environment where they are
sometimes connected via wired LAN, sometimes via WLAN, both times with
fixed IP addresses, no DHCP, different subnets for LAN and WLAN. I have
a DNS server available (if that helps in my situation), and it's really

Hi there,
I've been having a consistent, reproducable problem with BackupPC and
Xtar. This is what happens:
1. BackupPC, running on Fedora Core 4, successfully backs up a Mac OS
10.3 machine with Xtar.
2. A small percentage of the files backed up will appear as folders in
the BackupPC web
Sorry for responding so late. I finally got around to doing wht you
suggested, and thought it was worth sending it to the mailing list, if only
for the record.

How do I change pool root directory so that I can
put it in /backups (raid 5) instead of the default dir.

Hi Winston,
I'm guessing you will need to use a file system supporting hard links.
AFAIK NTFS does not.
So I would change to ext3 (or XFS/Reiser?), but I'm not an expert, so
you might want to wait for another list member to confirm that before
you proceed.
