This isn't exactly related to the BackupPC software, but I do think it is related to the file structure in the pool managed by BackupPC. Every few hours or so, I backup the backuppc server to a usb drive for disaster recovery purposes. The command I use to do this is as follows: rsync --numeric

BackupPC 3.x uses older versions of the rsync protocol, which requires the entire file list to be stored in memory. BackupPC 4.x uses pretty up-to-date versions of rsync, which no longer requires the full file list to be stored. So it's likely that BackupPC 4.x will have a better chance of runnin

You may need to stop/restart the rsyncd service to make it read the rsyncd.conf file on windows. I wanted to mention that there was some bug that I ran into (you're not seeing it yet) when the backuppc was using protocol version 26 and windows running rsyncd. You might want to update the serve

Nils, thanks for your reply. i CAN ssh into the client with the backuppc user from the backuppc server. to log into the client i need to supply the root password. how does backuppc know what the root password is to log in??? i never specified the root password in config.pl. is this something rsync

Thanks Holger, Craig, I checked, and I was running the old version of File::RsyncP so I removed the debian version (0.52) and installed from CPAN version 0.68. Also my versions of rsync on both machines is the same 2.6.9. I think it must be a something to do with the SSH link I am using though
