Hello,
it seems like that I can only bring bad news nowdays. After telling you
about the loss of my beloved berner boy, Max, now I have to ask you
for your attention.
In the last few weeks 3 bernese mountain dog bitches had been
stolen. The thiefs simply cut off the wire fence and took the dog
Today we mailed off the blood from our 10 1/2 year old Berner "Talee" for
the Cancer research being done at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research
center.
I'm sure Pat Long has all the latest information in anyone else wants to
take part in this research.
They still need more participants.

Our dogs were the ring bearers in our wedding. This was before we got
our Bernese "Ginger" last year. (I'm having a figurine made so that she can
sit next to the cake topper from our wedding.) Our caketopper had
our 3 cats and 2 dogs and us, in exactly our wedding outfits. It was great!

Hi Cheryl
I second what Vilma said as far as exercise goes but we would not let the
young dog jump out of the pickup bed. We haul ours behind the seat
"extended cab" and help the pup down. Will also help our 10 1/2 year old
down.
The only time ours ride in the pickup bed is the 2 mile trip to the
Hi Cheryl
First off I will say we are lucky to have all the raw beef bones we need. We
buy and have butchered 1 beef per year and the bones are cut up for the
dogs.
If any bone we go to feed has excess fat on it we trim some of it off. The
shank bones or marrow bones as some folks call them are th

I'd love to know if anyone's going to be in Spartanburg SC for the 3 day show
beginning this Friday. I'd also love to know what time berners will be in the ring..
Thanks, looking forward to meeting you and your dogs too, of course :-)

Hi everyone,
I have word from Mel at Doggon Wheels that Hugos
account has "extra" $385 pledged making us well on
the way to paying for a second cart, this would be

No second chair, but we can get wheels to take this chair down to the

Yes, Vilma, you are right. The statement should have been qualified as
leading cause of disease-induced/mediated death in dogs. Even that is
probably not a very good phrase to use because I imagine that a fraction of
behavior problems in dogs could also be disease-induced/mediated, too.

Do you mean growth plates? :-)
This is the leading edge of bone growth and formation for length of bone in a

These are easily damaged by trauma until the long bones stop growing. Growth

Nancy,
Thank you for the excellent information, that is really interesting and

I do have just one slight correction, however. Cancer is not actually the

Hi Ler's,
I did post some erroneous information regarding the Potomac Valley Specialty
on March 8th and 9th Specialty. The Titleholders and Veterans Parade will
not include therapy dogs or rescued dogs this year. I do apologize for my

Just to add to Sherri's great post about living with a young puppy when you have to be
gone several hours each day...a dog walker can be a very good option to explore! There
are lots of them out there (who knew?) and it is a fairly affordable luxury (I pay $15
for 45 minutes of play/potty time).
Nutrience dog food is being introduced here in S Africa and I wonder if any
of the L'ers have any information about it. Apparently it is manufactured by
Rolf C Hagen in Canada and it is also available in the UK.
Thank you
