Hi Everyone
Spent yesterday afternoon birding Amherst Island. Quite a change since my last
visit earlier in December. I only covered the island east of Stella. It was
cold and windy and I didn't see any hawks except for 1 male American Kestrel.
Also observed a flock of 25+ Pine Grosbeak fly

started in the afternoon. The Owl Woods had a small variety of land birds
including 4 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 1 Brown Thrasher, 1 Field Sparrow and 2

It was a great day both weather wise and owling today on Amherst Island. After
missing the Boreal Owl yesterday, it was out in the open today in the Jack Pine
Plantation and a lifer for many birders. At least 3 Northern Saw-whet Owl and 1
Barred Owl were present in the Owl

and hawks. In the Owl Woods we found 1 Boreal, 3 Northern Saw-whet, 1 Barred,
and 1 Long-eared Owl. At the East End (KFN property) there were 2 Snowy Owls

Late this afternoon, Ben and I spent a few hours birding Amherst Island. We
managed to see 5 species of owls, 1 Boreal, 3 Northern Saw-whet, and 5
Long-eared Owls in the Owl Wood's. It was interesting towards dusk, when the

Woods I located the elusive Boreal Owl in the southwest section of the Jack
Pine Plantation. Also, located 2 Northern Saw-whet Owl and 1 Long-eared Owl.

birding was good. Due to snow conditions,we parked along the South Shore
Road and walked in to the Owl Woods. We observed 5 Northern Saw-whet Owls

Spent the past two days birding Amherst Island. Weather conditions were
highly variable including snow, wind and extremely cold tempuratures. Despite
all of that, the birding was excellent. Yesterday, January 13th we observed 6
Northern Saw-whets, 3 Boreals,

Birded Amherst Island Saturday, January 10th and today, Sunday January 11th.
Conditions were excellent and we were still able to drive to the Owl Woods from
the South Shore Road. Both days were very successful in the woods with 3 Boreal

I have just returned from an afternoon of birding on the east end of Amherst
Island. 3 Long-tailed Ducks (1 hen, 2 drakes) were seen while on the ferry to
the island, along with several Bufflehead, Common Goldeneyes, and Common/Hooded
Mergansers. Owl Woods had little activity this
A friend and I went to Amherst Island today and had lots of raptors,
but no Snowys visible. We missed getting into Owl Woods, but will
return once the ban is lifted after Dec 6th.

Birded Amherst Island yesterday morning Nov. 6th, overall there are still lots
of raptors on the island. In the Owl Woods and at the Jack Pine Plantation we
found 6 Long-eared and 1 Barred Owl. Didn't locate any Northern Saw-whet Owls.
There was still lots of finch activity

Spent the day birding Amherst Island. It was a beautiful day weather wise and
the birding was good too. The Owl Woods produced 1 Long-eared Owl, 1 Barred
Owl but we couldn't find any of the Northern Saw-whets. There was a small flock
of White-winged Crossbills feeding and flying

the Owl Woods. Didn't see any Northern Saw-whets but they can be hard to
find. Other birds of interest included a late Eastern Phoebe, 3 Fox Sparrow

productive area was the east end of the island (K.F.N. property). Shorebirds
included 3 adult Short-billed Dowitcher, 6 Wilson's Phalarope and 7 adult

Yesterday, August 14th, I led a field trip to Amherst Island. This was
definitely the day to be shorebird watching on the island. Shorebird's were
present in good numbers and varieties. A total of 19 species were observed
including 1 Whimbrel, 2 juv. Ruddy Turnstone, 4 juv.
