I think there are only two formats. The kindle format and epub for everyone
else. There is a kindle app that you can download for the iPad. I believe

The biggest thing the Kindle has going for it is price. I personally can't see
buying a Kindle DX over a tablet...unless you expect to be doing most of your
reading outside where sunlight becomes an issue. Then the Kindle has it all
OVER the iPad.

I use my ipad for all pdf work. zoom is nice, as is the color.
But...i have a number of tech books on the kindle (and on my iphone),
so they do work.

Yeah, i just don't see the point of dropping anything over $100 on a tablet
that isn't an iPad. Even if it is overkill for what you need right now,
it's arguably the most thought-out tablet out there, and I'm willing to bet
you find all kinds of other uses for it in the end.

If you are set on a Kindle, you can convert epub to any format with the
previously mentioned Calibre software. Calibre is free and an excellent
piece of software.
