Welp...Can't get rid of the virus. As I mentioned in another thread,
it has even reached the Vista partition. Don't know how *that*
happened, but it must be attached to some file or program that I use
in both Operating Systems.
Anyways, I need to reinstall VISTA.
The thing is the
Install Ubuntu, then run Vista and XP as VMs and don't worry about it
anymore. :-)

After trying all the usual stuff, I finally was able to capture and
remove it using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Try that before giving up. It seems to catch a lot of stuff the
hijackthis, spybot, and others miss.

Doesn't look like it. Check your HOSTS file and see if there is an
entry in there for microsoft's domain. Getting rid of that could let
you get to the windowsupdate page.

from MS. I do not recall the exact wording right now and am not near
the machine to try it. I have had this problem ever since some
