Pull the #1 spark plug and put a cork firmly into the hole. Turn the engine over by hand until the cork pops out. Thats how youll know that you are on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke. Turn the engine until the #1 piston is at the top of its travel in the compression

Yes. It pops when there is detonation while a valve is open. Thats a timing issue. Is the vacuum advance working? Has the cam ever been degreed? I assume we have not ruled out the distributor being in wrong or the timing being set wrong due to a slipped damper. John Nasta

There is a reason that there are formulas that will determine the amount of air flow for a specified RPM. One thing is for sure, if your car only needs a 750 and you get the 850, your just spending more money on something that wont make your car go any faster. bigger is not always better. Rocky

New coil springs will do more for an older car than almost anything else to improve ride and handling. Rear coil spring air bags are cheap and work well to stiffen and lift the rear slightly. Air shocks are like adding pogo sticks. For my money, go with new coils and good performance shocks. mike
