You might check with Advance auto parts. My 69 was leaking bad and I
replaced seals in it only to have it still leak. Checked Advance online and
they carried a replacement steering box. The other parts stores might carry
them too ( NAPA ,PEP Boys,Autozone,O'reillys, ect.) They may carry a
Not a Mopar man ,but seems to me if you wanted to ditch the points and the rest
of the distributor is good maybe you should consider an MSD box or similar
unit. Would be a good way to eliminate the points and get a hotter spark all
in one shot. That's what I did on my 69 Chevelle and haven't

Seems that when I dropped the tank on my 69 I pulled the sending unit out and
tested it with an Ohm meter and found a dead spot in it . Think I learned
about how to test the sending unit from the Team Chevelle forum. but would go
the ground test route first and see what happens. Bear in mind
Had a similar problem in my 69 and one day while it read past full I ran out
of gas about a mile from my house. Called my son and after putting in 5 gals.
and cranking on it forever, got it started and drove it home. The next week
dropped the tank and put a new sending unit in it , problem
Forget to put this in my original reply, but the best way I found to drop the
gas tank is to support it with a floor-jack while you undo the straps. The
tank is not overly heavy if it's near empty, but bulky especially if you are by
yourself and laying on your back. Jack comes in handy for
Reading through all the replies I am convinced that today's cars are light
years better engineered from a safety standpoint than my 69'. Thinking back
on this, I would have friends alive today if airbags and mandatory seat belt
laws would have been around in the late 60's and early 70's when I
Look at the bright side, you didn't hit anything and nothing hit you !!! I had
a similar incident with my S-10 pickup a couple of years back. Was backing out
of the drive to go to work at 5:30 am ,hit the brake pedal and it went to the
floor. Ended up in the neighbors front yard before I

You didn't say in your post whether it was a new tank or used that you was
using for a replacement. When I dropped mine to replace the sending unit I
coated the top of the tank with anti-rust gel, let that dry and went over the
top of that with some brush enamel that I had laying
The glue I used was also 3m in a spray can. I used an old plastic container
that I had laying around and sprayed the adhesive into it. I then applied it
to the parts I wanted to glue on the headliner and sail panels with a throwaway
glue brush . I bought my sail panels with fabric installed
I had this problem with my 69 a couple of years ago and the one thing I can
recommend to you is that you go on E-bay and purchase a FISHER BODY SERVICE
manual for a 70. It will tell you all you need to know about adjusting the
windows on 70 A bodies and so much more. It's as valuable as a
I have had J.C. Taylor for about three years and am pleased with them so far.
Reasonable rates and pretty liberal restrictions.

When I replaced my hinges a year ago on my 69 I made up a tool to put the
springs back on with. It is a T-handle affair out of 1/4 inch square stock
with a handle welded on one end and a couple of links of 3/8 chain welded on
the other. I did the bit with spreading the spring with the floor
All alternators are suppose to charge at idle, hence no light. That is one of
the reasons the car manufacturers went to them. They are far superior to a
generator in charging at idle or any speed for that matter. My 69 with an
alternator has no gen light at idle. Just my two cents.

Had the same thing happen on my 69.nbsp; To make a long story short, after
testing my sending unit I discovered it was bad and replaced it.nbsp; Problem
solved, gas gauge has worked every since.nbsp; My gauge was doing the same
thing going way past fullnbsp; no matter how much fuel was in the

I'm not from California, but if you looked hard enough I bet the new car

I have a 69 Malibu and will call them tomorrow. I was wondering if
these resto kits are available for only Chevelles. I have a good friend that
is heavily into Corvairs and if available I know he would jump on it.

I ran into the same problem with my smallblock 69. I also have an Edlebrock
carb. and what I did was cut the one end off at the height of the intake
manifold. I ran 3/8ths braided fuel line hose from there to the fuel filter
which fits in a bracket that mounts on the carb. base ( homemade).
I opened my plugs up to .055 when I installed my MSD 6AL box in my 350 and
works great. This is what the MSD website recommended. Have stock HEI

When my 69' need a new rear glass I contacted a local club here in central
Illinois to see who they would recommend. I had already bought the glass via
on line and needed someone to install it. The club Secretary gave me the names

I think National Parts Depot sells the replacement cable for the Astro

I agree with John in the fact that the quarter windows don't look right. I
could be wrong ,but my memories of the quarter windows on the 69 wagon was they

When I did mine I was putting in a new rear window also. I had the glass man
come out and pull the old one out. With the rear glass out it was much easier

and set the window. Worked out good. Also if you have

I have used a product here in the states called Odor-cide. It doesn't
mask the odor, it eliminates it. It is made by the Winston company in Tulsa,

Wonder if the fuel sending unit and the electric fuel pump are all one unit.
That's the way it is on my 2000 S-10. I had the sending unit go bad and had to
replace the whole sending unit-fuel pump assembly. $480.00 plus labor later I
had a gas gauge that worked. Maybe thats why you can't
I've got a set of Lakewood traction bars on my 69' Malibu and like them really
well. Being a kid in the 60's I think bars would enhance the look of any
muscle car from that era, but then again I am not a purist.
