configuration can not be use unless you are running ISL encapsulation
(vlans) or a point-multipoint type network on the interface. If you try to

Do you have portfast enabled on the end-user ports? They could be timing
out for DHCP before spanning tree brings them up. With your setup it sounds
like you could turn spanning tree off if you wanted. I rarely do because
