Is it possible that someone put the no-exec line on the console port or your speed isn't set to 9600. Are you using hyperterm or teraterm or equivalent? If this isn't a production box, why not practice your password recovery skills and set a new vty password and then check the console settings?

Chuck, Wouldn't it be safer to say that if a BGP speaking router learns a prefix from a peer that doesn't have an AS-path attribute (what you referenced as being originated from) then it is IBGP because bgp won't tag it's own as-path onto a prefix until it tries to go over a ebgp connectiong.
