A windlass is one of the best purchases I made for cruising—it saved my back!
How can you put a price on that?

I also use a chain hook as a third hand to secure the chain when retrieving -
this too is on a length of line and cleated to the bow cleat. Indispensable
when you are solo without a windlass.

Hopefully yours will look smaller on the boat than in your kitchen.
I secure it (10kg) to the bow cleat with a short lanyard and it stays put, only
very occasionally hopping off
I have it now – the thing is a beast. Time to see if I need to do anything to
the anchor roller to make it fit.
This may push me to look for a windlass at some point.

Greetings,
We are planning to replace our standing rigging this fall and I'm trying to
figure out what type of upper fitting is needed for the shrouds. The
owner's manual (1980 C&C 25 mkII) simply says "T-ball" for the forestay and
upper/lower shrouds. Looking around, it appears there are a number

I went with the excel also based on Panopes observations. I have the 45lb

I have a 35 lb genuine Bruce as a backup to my 35 lb Delta. Works for me so

I have no firsthand experience, but I have read several places that the

the shape have big effects.

I saw a picture in the New York Times this morning of a couple large keelboats
ashore on Conanicut Island (Jamestown, RI). This fall I’m crewing the delivery
of an Astrea 42 from Newport to Tortola, via Bermuda, as part of an offshore

I had a Bruce on my 33 MkII and once I attached a long enough piece of chain
and rode it was great in the North Channel. I would recommend it but when I
bought a new anchor for my current boat I went for a Rocna and it might even be
better.

It might depend on what you are planning to spend. Most buyer agents split
the commission on a boat with the selling agent. You might find it hard to
get one involved with a used older boat. We bought our boat through a

Re financing: My credit union will loan on boats 200 years old, they really
don’t care about age as long as there is survey to provide some idea of the

+1 to Josh’s comments — it really helps if you are looking to borrow money to
