I originally left ID3 support out when FLAC moved to Audio::Scan, but
there were a lot of angry people who I believe use ID3 mostly for FLAC
artwork. These files were tagged before FLAC supported artwork
natively.

SBS uses #EXTURL to be smarter, but it will regenerate it when it feels

Well I unplugged it for about half an hour and rebooted, and everything
seemed fine.
However, an hour later, I'm back to square one with the Favourites gone

Your ISP is assigning a random address. At both ends. Without some third
party to keep track of these addresses, neither end of your setup knows
which address to use to get to the other.
Dynamic DNS solves these problems to some extent. Check if your DSL
routers have the ability to register with
Once again - I wake up the Touch to find it at the top-level menu

Thanks for the long and considered answers. I will take my time to read

I assume that where SBS lists these options under Ogg Vorbis, these are
transcoded streams?
AIFF: sox
FLAC: sox
MP3: sox/lame
OGG Vorbis: Native
The alternative to 'Native' for Ogg Vorbis files is 'Disabled'. I'll
try that and see what happens.

thanks. Interesting! For example, last month I used 6.18GB at home and
probably didn't stream any netflix movies last month, and I stream
music about 5-6 hours per day, with typically 4 hours of that at 64 or
lower (news stations, etc.). I also do some email and web use for 3

I've been playing with some numbers to see what streaming uses, in terms
of monthly usage. If anyone's interested, I've created a small
spreadsheet which gives a rough idea of how much of a monthly limit
regular streaming might use.
Actually, I got a bit of a shock. Even only streaming 4 hours
I see. What you want is running the "MIP headless" thing, that is a Java
server that has a user interface through a web browser. SBS interacts
with this server to generate the playlists, it must be running.
I meant checking this server was running by pointing your browser to
http://localhost:10002
OK my cunning plan didn't work as the ISP seems to allocate completley
random public ip addresses.
So, after a bit of reading it seems that SSH might be the way to go but
I haven't got a clue how to set this up or, indeed, if it is possible

Hi epoch1970 and thanks for the tip. As I am not too technical please
bear with me. Having istalled MusicIP i now have a desktop icon for
it. I have therefore stopped SBS and opened MusicIP via the desktop
icon. I have then restarted SBS. Unfortunatelly I am still unable to
see or use musicIP
Mine won't connect to SB3 over direct cabled ethernet connection or bridged
since updating to 7.6.1 (latest general update rather than a nightly). Haven't
yet tried in plain wireless mode. It gets an IP address without problem, then
"cannot connect to server" First time in about four years that
make sure the musicIP server is up and running before SBS is started.
Otherwise SBS does not load the MIP plugin.
In simple terms, verify the MIP server responds on localhost:10002 with
your browser. Then restart SBS and you should be good to go.

I think this has something to do with playing Ogg Vorbis files - if I
try to play an ogg file, the player hangs and needs to be rebooted
before it can play any other file.
In SBS settings, there's a page for file types OGG is set to:
AIFF: sox
FLAC: sox
MP3: sox/lame
OGG Vorbis: Native

I did try that, but though it didn't have the same errors there were
still problems. So I resorted to a de-install.
