SBS is perfectly capable of playing 24.96 files or 176.4 or 192 for
that matter (I have plenty).

The other somewhat related thing that can happen is a corruption of
server.prefs file which also has MAC-binding encoded within it. To check
this, stop SBS, backup your server.prefs file somewhere then delete or
rename the original and restart SBS.

Then it must be the MAC address of the Boom that has somehow been cloned
onto the Classic - check against the printed labels on the underside
against what is stored in the device - make sure they tally. There is a
rare bug that causes this to happen (usually on the Classic)

The max shift down I've seen was -12dB (an Oasis CD - hardly the

The SB3 uses a 24-bit internal implementation for it's level control.
Provided you keep the volume fairly high you shoudn't notice too much

Well, it doesn't work for me (and many others).
The scanner blows out at the merge various artists step unless I turn
off real-time protection. Excluding .MYi/MYD files has no effect.
Also the Albums list won't generate.

However, sync/un-sync on my web interface (Chrome, XP SP3. SBS 7.5 -
wired to router) is instantaneous. No delay at all.
Can't comment on Controller as I don't have one.
I suspect you have an underlying problem with your network, as such
delays are not normal IME.

Traditional "Radio-style" levelling involves quite heavy compression
which I'm certain you don't want to do.
I suspect that the method you used to apply RG in the past may not be
correct. I've never had/seen any problems with RG like the ones you
describe.

It just reduces the level by adjusting the 24-bit word value internally
- exactly as the digital volume control does. There is NO compression or
limiting.

I should have said was, when using
RG you shouldn't also have lots of digital level reduction. Otherwise
you may be straying into the low-SNR realm. I reckon that RG of -10dB
(which is pretty much the max for very "loud" albums) + -10dB of level
reduction is probably the safe limit. Ev
having its inputs summed to mono by a direct l/r connection
(which is exactly what the y-connector does).

inputs into mono amps for 30 years and never had any problem.

What's wrong with a Y-connector ? (The best software solution for
this... to use SOX to convert to mono on the fly, assuming you are
streaming from a server capable of running SOX)

space in the extension name... is this why the AV scanners fire off ONLY

No - a power shutoff won't reset the xilinx (it MIGHT corrupt it
though...)
