I'm still using my reliable 3 year old Linksys WRT54GL. It just plain works. ;) I do think your troubles illuminate the very common issue of WiFi and general router performance issues we see in here. You are trying brand new, newer version hardware and sometimes are seeing worse performance

Seems odd it would be over heating under normal usage. I've only ever heard of regular over heating of routers when they have been over clocked or tweaked for boosted signal strength coverage. But then this isn't something I follow very closely either. -- toby10
