I've been using WRT54GL with Boom without problems. Try the '30/30/30'
I run tomato on a WRT54GL it's very stable .
Btw do not crank up the wifi radio to full power, the wrt54gl don't

I've retired my Tomato-ed WRT54GL recently - it wouldn't handle my
50mbps internet link. After some research I realized its the time to
stop using consumer crap, and I switched to pro- wired router, which
happens to be incredibly powerful, feature-rich, and yet very
inexpensive.
If you want the
Well today I installed a new Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router to replace the
Linksys WAG120N with cr*p wireless performance. Or rather - the
Buffalo kind of installed itself - didn't use installation CD or
anything. Plugged my freebie Thomson SpeedTouch modem in, connected the
router, and about 3

I am using a d-link DIR-655 as a router/wlan Access Point.
I am living in an old house which I have renovated and redone the
wiring. I began with the livingroom and unfortunately back then I
didn't think of putting a LAN cable there :-(
Anyway when I bought my Duet I suddenly needed an Access

Any views on the WRT54GL versus Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 which is supposed to

I don't know about the Buffalo, but WRT54GL is stable and I've been
using it to broadcast WLAN from one building to another, maybe 50
meters through one glass window

I'm still using my reliable 3 year old Linksys WRT54GL. It just plain
works. ;)
I do think your troubles illuminate the very common issue of WiFi and
general router performance issues we see in here.
You are trying brand new, newer version hardware and sometimes are
seeing worse performance

It seems many folk still rate the old Linksys WRT54GL, perhaps with
third-party firmware (Tomato etc.). Does it have a strong wireless
signal or could I still be in for a range expander which itself could
melt under the streaming load?
Is it best to partner it with a proper Linksys modem like
Well I took the easy route and sprang for a Linksys WAG120N. Like Ms

worse - SLIMP3 keeps rebuffering (unless this is yet another 7.5 bug;

I use a d-link DIR-655 as a wlan access point (when needed). It works
pretty well, but I prefer my devices to be wired - the wired router
uses 2W instead of the 12W the AP uses.

My Linksys WAG54GX2 wireless gateway router has started to overheat and
power down when I connect more than one device to it now. Overheating
routers is a known issue but I wondered if anyone else is having a
similar problem in a music streaming context.

DIY cooling ribs?
Or just drill some air holes in it?
Or glue a fan to it. :D

Or, just buy a new one if the current one isn't under warranty.
They are not very expensive compared to most audio products. I think I
paid $35 for my Belkin and it runs fine.

Seems odd it would be over heating under normal usage.
I've only ever heard of regular over heating of routers when they have
been over clocked or tweaked for boosted signal strength coverage.
But then this isn't something I follow very closely either.

The router probably is just not up to moving so much data, so I'd
recommend replacing it with a different model. I had a Netgear router
that worked fine until I got Squeezeboxes. After that it would
sometimes lock up, either when streaming FLAC or even when copying huge
batches of FLACs from my
