Thanks for the hint! We were able to identify a user with a look in the core
dump and i think we were able to find the issue. Some user try to authenticate
with an "alias user" which typically missing the mailbox host information.
Currently we do some test to verify the issue. If it is so we will modify the

I am starting to feel this bug is more musl related than Dovecot. Since
this has bitten our project more in the past, I'm considering to move
the project to Debian based images. But I want to be 100% sure this is
not a dovecot bug.
Note, earlier I created an image with Alpine:edge with musl 1.1.20-r2
and Dovecot 2.3.3. Running that image I saw the same error symptoms (Was
just a hopeful trail and error). I did not do any debugging on that one.

Would this pose some kind of security risk? Would this actualy do what
I want, or am I missing a bigger picture?

I'm using an Ubuntu Server OS (10.04) and it seems that the latest
package they provide is 1.2.9.
Do you know if anyone has had any success getting a Dovecot 2 package on
this Ubuntu distro and how they went about it (Not comfortable compiling
sources at this point!!)?

not seem to be an option to specify the type of mechanism
within their interface so I think I have to offer PLAIN along with SSL.

Ran the command and it works. However it doesnt keep the UID as the thunderbird
client redownloads all the POP3 mails.

I have a box running Dovecot 1.x POP3 only server using mbox format. I want to
port the mail over to a Centos 6.3 box running a Dovecot 2.x POP3 only server
using Maildir format. The main thing I want to do is support
XUID/read/unread status so the transfer is transparent for the end user. I

You want to use SHA1 as password scheme but still PLAIN mechanism.
