Sorry in advance for taking the bandwidth but it looks like I am not
getting anything from the list. Thanks

The C6050G IC is an MC 1496. I used it myself for a product detector way
back in the late 70's. I was going to make a little direct conversion
receiver with it but never finished the project. Later, when I got my R4C I
put the TL 442 based product detector in it and in an R4B. They worked
I have an HP VTVM and when I first got it, the range switch seemed
erratic. I made the mistake of liberally applying De-Oxit to the switch and
boy,
it got really erratic after that. It took 2 or 3 days of leaving it
outside in the summer sun to get the switch to dry out and it's been great
I recently acquired a very nice TR7 and found it completely dead. I
checked the usual suspects (PIN diodes in the TR switch) but nothing amiss
there. More poking around and it looks like the power supply line may be
shorted. My Service Manual shows a diode CR1 across the + 12 volt line (
It's looking like I may have TR switch problems (diode has the same
resistance either direction. This is the high power PIN diode in the TR
switch.
Does anyone know of a current source for the UM 9400 (or MA4P1200) PIN
diodes in the TR Switch? Are there any substitutes for these diodes?
I am curious too - if I am interfacing an FS-4 to an R4B (or even a C or an
SPR-4) which pin on the crystal socket do I plug into? The manual does
indicate there is a difference between either pin on the crystal socket -
just plug it in and ground the outer shield.

Here's an update to my S-meter setting woes (and oddly the list seems to
have gone out for the last day or so) - I used the directions in the early
serial number manual on WB4HFN's site with a little bit of changes - mostly
using the s-meter control R33 and R36 to set the end points of the s
Well I read the instructions in the manual but in the end it didn't seem
like it was setup right: s-meter zero pot to mid range then setting the
s-meter to S-3 (with a 1 micro-volt signal) and then setting the s-meter to a
30,000 micro-volt signal (60 over s-9). Before I started this the s-m
Ok, The Antenna selector switch on my MN-2700 suddenly went weird - I could
not select anything - it seemed like none of the detents would engage. I
opened the unit up and after some poking around realized that the detent
part of the switch which is in the front is only tied to the inner fro
It started as an intermittent - I would tune to something in 40 meters -
say 7242 and notice a minute later that the radio was at 5242. Switching
the band switch up or down would bring the radio back but now it's lost it's
mind completely - 10 meters is at 25 MHz, 15 meters is at 20 MHz, 20
Many thanks to Garey and Bill: Let me see if I can track those resistors
down and I'll post the results. I wondered if it might be something like that
as
all in all either version board seems to work.

I have S/N 6951 and it has a version 1 IF board. I have tried 2 different
version 2 boards ( which I know are in good working order) and they work but I
cannot get the s-meter to adjust: with the version one board my radio reads
S9 at 28 MHz but both version 2 boards read S8 or a little low
I recently had an issue with my TR7: the 10R and 10T lines appear to both be high ~ 8.5 to 9.5 volts at the same time. I replaced the 2N4402 transistors with 2N2907 (the parts guy said they were equivalent) and get the same results. What do I look for now?
Thanks

And I have noticed the smell as well. Am I to understand that it comes from the caps? If they are available and 20 a piece, I'd have to say that it smells to me like a good deal because I am tired of my shack smelling like the bilge of an old sailboat (can't think of what else to liken it to)

I know you can go to Bob Sherwood's web page and look up the dynamic range
of the R4-C with and without mods. But I don't think I have ever seen any
numbers on the

I have had my TR7 for a couple of years and recently it quit. Seems like
the 10R and 10T line are both on at the same time. The frequency reads OK but
