register user access only - ie they have to enter a username and
password to see the content but can do it from anywhere not just on
campus. Don't ask why I am just the poor soul who has to make it happen.

Not yet. I am still working on it. I would like to avoid using
the GUI to submit. Instead, I would like to be able to recursively
go through a dir and its sub-dirs and automatically crawl.
Has anybody done this before?
