I've been thinking about a hack that I don't think
I will try to do, but I've been wondering if anyone
else might have considered it or would be willing
to speculate about it.
There are tons of older unused PowerBooks in
existence (in attics, closets, boxes, drawers and,

I've decided to give one last effort into curing my 2400 of the
GLOD, even tho, someone has made an offer to trade.
After testing resistors ( in a series ) on the processor daughter
card, I'm beginning to think it's not the processor causing the GLOD.

Depends. If you are lucky, its a software reset. Less lucky, but
not too bad, is a fuse replacement. Bad, is a new powerboard or CPU
is needed.

I would guess that without testing, the GLOD is probably fixable by a
fuse replacerment, or at worst, a new powerboard. Roll the dice
though...

the System Resources file from the System Folder. Well, I installed my new
logic board today, and that problem has gone away. My bottom PCMCIA slot

The 3400 does not have room for more VRAM. There are no open pads
like the 2400 has. The 3500 might have 2 MB of VRAM, but the only
3500 board I have is dead, so I cant be sure.

I tore my GLOD/COD 2400c down tonight (again). While it was apart, I
decided to track down and test every fuse that I could find on the thing.
There is a 2A fuse at F4 on the underside of the logic board that is bad.
It is almost dead center of the board.
www.digikey.com has just about any
ON a Duo 2300, there is a 1 square doo-dad. It has 10 pinds and is
near the AC port on the back. It is marked:

Presumably this is some sort of transformer. A quick look on

I've been reading the DuoList for several months now
and learned of the 2400 GLOD problems. I'm curious if
anyone has looked at the design and tried to improve
on it? My thoughts are:
1) If it's heat related, the regulator IC may need a
better heatsink. The AC adapter puts out 24 Volts and
I used to think I had all my duo battery problems licked. Guess not.
As of 6 months ago, I had 5 working duo batteries, from 50 minutes to
150 minutes of battery length, as measured by Battery Amnesia.
As of 2 weeks ago, none of them work, including my 2 yr old recelled battery.

Apparently it is one of those highly annoying
installers that insists it must install from a disk
with a specific name and will not install to the disk
it's currently on even if that disk has the right
name.
So you'll have to format a floppy, name it EtherTech
Installer, copy the installer to it

Most PRAMs I have looked at have one of the 2
cells nearly dead, while the other is a lot closer to the charged 3.0
V. I _think_ when the PRAM gets charged up, it looks at either cell
for 3.0 V.

I hve several Duo 280 screens that go dark in the corners after the
screens are on for some time. The last theory I heard about this
problem was that it was the backlight going out over time.
To confirm this, I tried an experiment. I removed the backlight and
left the duo on for 4 hours one

also have problems with the image sticking on
the screen. By this I mean that it seems to burn itself into the
screen and is still visible after the machine

Nope, not without serious mods. The reverse will work, as the 2300 will
accept any display.
