There's an ad for the new rig on the back page of the June QST. I'm not
impressed. Kenwood did make some decent HF rigs back in the days of the
TS-830, 850 and 930. From the 940 on, though, I think they seriously
dropped the ball. This new one just seems like it's too little, too
ad nothing like that snapping sound and audio muting. Anyone have a clue?

When I'm ragchewing (which is often), I'm at much greater risk of being
QRM'd by a DX-chaser working split than I am by any contester. But, you
know what, I'm glad they'

equivalent, functionally, to the IC 756 PRO II and KPA-500 you now have.
Of course, it would work a lot better because the K3's RX is superior to

power a few times, not sure which band, but it was about 34 watts in for
500 watts out. On 80 m it was under 30 watts in.

I would not describe myself as fad driven. My first station was a Viking
Adventurer and HQ-110, and I used it for 12 years (1958-1970). My second
was an HW-100 and I used it for 12 years (1970-1982). After that, though,
I had a Ten-Tec OMNI D, IC-761, and FT-1000s over the ensuing 28 years.

As always, make sure your AFSK signal gain is adjusted to just give you
peak power at your setting. If you crank it any more than that, you'll

tree is not high enough, so the my antenna looks more like a pennant than
a true Double L). But, it does work. Compared with inverted Ls, half
slopers, and other antennas I've tried, this one has been the most
reliable.

year, I sold two Yaesus and bought two K3s. Trust me, had I known there
would be an FT-5000 coming, and its specs were comparable to K3, I would
not have deferred the purchase and considered the 5000.

I had a similar problem (and used the same solution) with the FT-1000s and
the DVD. I thought it was a Yaesu issue, bu
viduals. One of my buddies who owns a K3 and IC-7800 told me he likes
the Icom better. I hope so. It cost him $7,000 more. I've never used a
panadaptor, but I'm looking forward to playing with a P3. After clearing
the space taken up by the two FT-1000s, I certainly have the room
for quality
and reliability. But, I think they have the right idea, here. My new K3
seems to be working just fine with both the 87A and Centurion, so I have
no beef. If there was an auto-bandswitching, all-solid-state amp that took
up less space, I'd be i

then having to remove the top and lower bottom covers, and then having to
reinstall them all again, afterward. Not a big thing - maybe an extra 10
or 15 minutes? Over all, though, a very well engineered product and kit.
