Linas, Yes the PTT cable is necessary. During tuning the power is reduced, and the way that is accomplished is for the KAT100 to open the PTT line to the amp. If you have an amp that only takes a small amount of power to drive it, your exciter may not have enough power to do a proper TUNE -
