I am missing something. I have a NIS server where I set new users
and some others computers connected to it by ypclient. However now I've
put some new users and they cannot log in the satellite machines. I did
'make in /var/yp/' and restart yp services, but nothing worked.

I´m trying to install Mandrake 8.1 with no luck. When I boot the machine with the CD
or the floppy with the cdrom.img it stops just after this line:

ipop3d from the imap package and it seems to work ok, but it doesn't start on boot.

know where the mysql databases are kept so I can move them over. Should

Hmmmworked ok for me. I have 2 NICs in my machine and they
configured fine...dhcp to the internet and the other one is the NAT
server for my home network. One thing that I did find missing is the
firewall settings though.

I finally got a chance to work with this again and this time got in
touch with the isp. it turns out that they one of those that bind the
client eth0 h/w addr into their config. (i guess this process happens
automatically during the setup under windoze..)and they ARE running
pppoe and not dhcp.

Damn...I find it hard to believe this new release went through so many
betas and RC's and still has showstopper bugs in it. What really pisses
me off is that old versions of the software worked fine so it seems that
mandrake put new stuff in just because it's new and not because it's any
better.

I put mdk 8.2 on my test drive then I decided that I wanted to test out
VMWare. Of course I'd much prefer to test out such things on my test
system. It seems though that VMWare requires certain kernel modules
which are not out and do not compile when it tries to compile them
itself. Plu
Fixed yesterday - removed the two egcs packages that were installed and
it went with 2.96. I have an idea the packages are used for kernel
compiles, so I will need to put them back eventually.
Does 8.2 (I will be upgrading in a couple of weeks) have this problem as
well?
