Yes, that's what supermount does; it keeps trying the drive to see
what's there.
"supermount disable"
will clobber it and allow you to run a nice simple Unix-like environment
again.
(On most systems checking the CD isn't such an expensive operation so
it's not a big deal.)

DVD support in linux is still somewhat crippled. the livid project is making
progress, or at least they claim to make progress. I can't really tell because
the damn thing won't even compile here. A somewhat older version I ran a few
months ago gave me a movie playback with slight slideshow-resemb

Hmmm... that's exactly what mine looked like. And when I had nothing in
the drive, it sounded like it kept seeking for something and slowed the
entire system down... wierd.

Michael,
I own a Pioneer 6X model. I have no trouble getting full screen real time
framerate and there is no region specific hardware on board.
It runs all movies just fine, even double layer ones.

Which ones would fall into that category?

Totally off topic but for those contemplating buying a DVD drive, do your very
best to find a multiregional model. They will play movies from anywhere in
the world without having to worry about region specific decoders

Hi:
This sounds like a fix for something I have been wanting to do for a while.
At one point, I wanted to mount a couple of PC in my equipment rack with
DVD's on them and let anyone in the house access them (kids) to watch
children DVD apps. Well, of course I could not do this. Now this sounds
/mnt/cdrom /mnt/cdrom supermount fs=iso9660,dev=/dev/cdrom 0 0

Can I see what your fstab looks like for that device? Since I installed

I have a Pioneer DVD and it hasn't caused any problems. For all intents and

I can pretty well verify that it does not work with DVD-RAM.
Which is OK. I don't yet have full information on making it
work, but I will post when I do.
Most of those tools are in your 7.0 distro already (all they
could cram in without hiring another lawyer) I recommend browsing
the RPMs on t

Does Supermount work with DVD-ROM's under Linux? I installed an Acer IDE
DVD-ROM today and it made things go *extremely* slow until I commented out
the /etc/fstab entry for the device. The GIMP hung and all kinds of other
unpleasant things happened. Now I've got it so I have to manually mount
