Actually, I specificall avoided installing Mesa... I have an ATI Radeon 32MB DDR video card. To get 3d opengl hardware acceleration I had to download, build, and install the DRI-CVS code. This incorporates the required mesa libs - and I can run gears and get > 1000 FPS (I average 1086 FPS).

I had to change the ownership of the installation file to the user I wanted to use it as before I installed it. Once I did that I installed it as abe and I use it as abe. Root doesn't even know its there. Hey, I got quake3 to work but in the process I lost the ability for users other then ro

so, I downloaded and installed it the other day. The install process was free and easy just like the 7.1 install. I always do expert and choose the packages I want installed. Some of the packages I indicated should not be installed were and the ones that weren't actually installed were still
