Kathryn what Smokey is going through sounds totally like the feline herpes
virus, not really related to the leukemia problem. It of course can affect
animals with a comprimised immune system and stress is the biggest contributor.
If he is recovering nicely from this then I would think there
days, had free access except when I blocked the door for some
reason (really bad weather etc), and was safe.

I took in a stray which I named Smokey too. I had him
tested before I brought him into the household. He
tested negative. He was in contact with 4 of my other
cats. They ate after one another and used the same
litter boxes. My other 4 cats had been vaccinated
against felv. After about 3
