When I've run into this, since media is cheap, I simply create a second
file, one for print-out, one for playback. In the case you're

I discovered this problem with the Tempo tool long time ago. I can only
suggest to use a time signature with many beats like 24/4 to get the long
pauses, without changing the tempo. Those big time signatures are
correctly exported.
