[Finale] Really dumb question about group names that I should know already...

2008-03-01 Thread Christopher Smith
Hi, all FinMac2008. I have a score with two pianos. I didn't want them names Piano 1 and Piano 2 like the Setup Wizard defaults to, so I changed the names to Piano (rehearsal) and Piano. I created a new part called Piano/Vocal (rehearsal) with the Piano (rehearsal) group, the solo voice

Unless someone else has an insight, I would attribute this to the Finale voo-doo of older and edited files causing file corruption. I was told by tech support that my old method of clearing music out of an old file that I liked the look of to serve as a blank for a new piece was not

Dear Lawrence, I have done this a number of times and I sometimes encounter file corruption problems when converting older files into newer versions of Finale. Whether or not this is a result of the seemingly logical procedure you describe is not clear. I don't know that this helps

Hi Chris, When viewing the part, before you optimize, just deselect Show Group Name in the group attributes. The name will still show up in the score. As far as changing the group name, this is done from the Manage Parts dialog box -- click the Edit Part Name button. Cheers, - Darcy

I have done this a number of times and I sometimes encounter file corruption problems when converting older files into newer versions of Finale. Tangentially, I am finishing up a project that I approached with great anxiety: concatenating 25 Finale scores from 12 years of Finale versions

Hah! The first answer was it. As for the second answer, Finale WILL change the part name to whatever I want. It will stubbornly insist, however, that the group is still called Piano 1, though that name doesn't currently appear anywhere. It is correct in the score; only the part displays

Just figured this out. I have to change the group name in the score if I want it changed in the score, BUT THE PARTS DO NOT INHERIT THIS. Unlike most changes made to the score, I have to go to the part and change it there separately if I want it changed there, too. Whew. I thought I had

Hi all, 2008b has been relatively stable on my setup, but I have encountered a recurring problem: I cannot click out of dialog boxes using the mouse and either the Cancel or the OK button. Sometimes the Enter key will work, but sometimes you get a recalcitrant dialog that wont close.
