Hello!
What's the 'z' articulation used for? It's in slot 122 in the music
fonts. It's also defined as an articulation in the Finale default file,
so I think it's quite important? The positioning of this z articulation
is on the stem. Is it some kind of tremolo?

Some people also refer to it as a "buzz roll."

They have no effect on this issue. Finale seems to treat the percussion
staff as a treble staff for the purposes of percussion entry, so the
bottom line is E4. If I try hitting E3 (regardless o

Admittedly I haven't used Fin2012 all that much, but whenever I have

Good luck in solving the problem!

I've re-installed Finale - no better.
The program is now effectively unusable. Any ideas please?

Hi Lawrence,
Again, I don't know if this is applicable cross-platform, but on Mac,
re-installing the application does not create a clean set of preferences --
they need to be manually deleted. But doing so usually solves any
crash-on-launch issues.
Hopefully one of the Windows experts on the l
Have you tried deleting the Finale registry entries? Bad or corrupted
values in there are often not replaced when re-installing, or even
removing the program.

Thanks, but I'm not interested in Simple Entry. I have always used

method is supposed to work.

No, not worked, crashed after about two minutes.

That's a safe way of fixing many registry problems. Hopefully it will work.
Claude is suggesting that you create a new user in XP, then use Finale
as that user. That's a possible workaround for registry problems, but
running as a new user will make your life more complicated, which you

No, Rob, it didn't work.
It seems to be something to do with the playback - I've just discovered
that when I stop playback, the sound (the last chord played) continues. It
stops when I change anything in the "audio device setup" box.
I'm sorry to clog the list with this. I just hope that I can g
Running as a new user will, however, help isolate the problem. If it still
crashes even under a brand-new user account, then that is confirmation that
something is seriously amiss.

In that case it may have nothing to do with Finale, but be related to
your audio drivers.
Can you play music from any other program?

I've tried logging on as a new user and that seemed to solve the problem,
although, of course, I didn't have all the options I had in the normal
programme.
I looked at the audio settings and they were the same as when I log on as
myself.
Does that tell you anything (it means little to me I'm afra
Hi Lawrence,
It means the problem is due to something related to your Finale user settings
(which are preserved even when you uninstall/reinstall).
Hopefully a Windows expert can tell you how to clear those out and start again
from scratch.
You could also contact MM tech support.

Thank you Darcy, and everyone else who is gradually leading me to a

In past versions, there were bass clef and treble clef entry maps. But
now that you can no longer specify an input pitch separate from a
display position
Ah makes sense

Did you install another program on your computer in the last days before you
started having this problem? You might want to go to the control panel and
check the "system restore" option to see if any programs were installed
about the time you started to have the problem. If you did you can res
