It looks like you haven't done the upgrade of your fink installation
for 10.2.
Look at http://fink.sourceforge.net/news/jaguar.php and follow the
instructions there.

sorry for sending the wrong address.
following the instructions for installayion for new jaguar users, but
i got confused and thought i was using instrudtions for upgrading. i
removed and reinstalled fink and started again from the new users
instructions. the result being ,bootstrap,sh eith
I have installed gnome on Mac Os 10.2 from cvs including
esound package. I have activated the sound in the control
panel but I can get a sound to play.
What's wrong?
Which ackage do U need to install to get sound working properly on
gnome.

You may have been getting just the packages that were for both 10.1 and
10.2 . Check and see whether /sw/fink/10.2 exists on your system, and
whether /sw/fink/dists is a symbolic link to /sw/fink/10.2 .

I'm just trying to get my head around this whole Fink/UNIX thing...
I think I have installed fink correctly.
When I open the terminal and type > I get a

i'm trying to use the generic mapping tools (GMT) on my ibook with os x 10.2.2 installed. i did a fresh install of fink using the bootstrap method on the web, and fink has successfully installed numerous programs like gnumeric and gimp as well as xfree86.

Check out 'fink list --help' for the extra stuff you can feed to 'fink
list'
You can reformat the output width with -w, and you can choose only
installed packages with -i, for example.
Try just doing 'fink list -i threaded', as a quick check. There should
be four entries.

I kept getting a conflict with xfree86-rootless whenever I tried to
install xfree86-rootless-threaded. That was despite the fact that the only
things listed as installed were Xfree86-rootless-threaded and
Xfree86-rootless-threaded-shlibs (as reported by "fink list -iw=260
xfree")
Darn it, never mind. XDarwin is now opening windows upon startup. Perhaps
because I started using my /bin/bash instead of the default login shell?
I thought that /was/ my default login shell! So what *is*?
