The CW keying (I use Vibroplex paddles) seemed fine on the 3K, but I seemed to
be making a lot of sending errors on the 5K, which is my primary rig. A little

Larry,
I use DM780 without running HRD by configuring PTT to use a virtual comm port
instead of via HRD. I find that the switching speed is fine whereas I
experienced significant delays when going through HRD.

Craig,
I would also suggest that you upgrade to PowerSDR 2.0.16. I found version 2.0.8
virtually unusable on CW and was running 2.0.6 until 2.0.16 was released.

Ed,
We are currently leaving the transmitter LO on in receive mode so you are
seeing that on the Panadapter. This will be turned back off in an upcoming
release. It was done for technical reasons that ar

Well, I might as well chime-in here as another old-timer! In my undergraduate
studies at Ohio State, I was introduced to computing with a high-level language
called Scatran, which was similar to Fortran. When I started working in the
aerospace industry (part-time while in school and full-time su
Rick,
I sometimes feel old and frustrated myself, but not about my Flex radios!
I have a Flex-5000 and a Flex-3000 that I use primarily on CW and PSK31. I use
DM780 for PSK31, and even though I have installed HRD, I do not have the need

run it (or Mini-Deluxe which I have not tried) to run
I was wondering if anyone has experimented with the CW shaping control on the
Flex-5000 or Flex-3000? The default rise time is 5 ms and as far as I know this
is about as low as one should go without generating key clicks. Is anyone
running say 8 ms, and if so, what is a qualitative assessment of
Paul,
I would be pleased to help as well if you contact me off list. I use DM780 and
the logging program (without HRD) successfully with a Flex-5000 and a
Flex-3000,
the 5K running under Windows 7 and the 3K under Windows XP. I also sometimes
use
DM780 with my IC-7700, but I am now almost a 1
personally.
Other than moving the radio, sound attenuation of some sort is about the
only realistic option.

I am still holding on to my Flex-3000, but I use the Flex-5000 most of the
time.
As a matter of fact, I made a contact on 80 meter CW with the 3K late last
night
when I should have been trying to sleep as I get up for work at about 5:00 a.m.!

From
Colleagues,
I purchased my first Flex radio last January, a Flex-3000, and fell in love
immediately with the general operation and performance of the radio. Like all
"lovers" nothing is perfect and I am really bothered by the excessive fan noise
generated by the radio. I purchased a Flex-5000 a
