Vicki,
The graphite ABS cannot be used as a bridge. The ethernet port on
the station is designed only as an uplink to your DSL/Cable modem.
New versions of the ABS -- Snow and Extreme -- have a dedicated
WAN port that allows bridging. Having said that, there's several
inexpensive alternatives

Ok, my bad. I have been very ignorant of any 12 model, I'm afraid.
Everymac doesn't specify the 12. The cacheless Wallstreet 12 seem to

I had both problems and success, but didn't notice much improvement.
Maybe 2-4%. 512MB RAM will give you a more substantial and reliable boost.

I am considering a G3 400 MHz Pismo. I spoke with the woman who owns

it and the man who sold it to her (a salesman at her local computer
store) assured her it was the clock - her comment: it seems to be in

Hi,
I have a Powerbook Lombard 400mhz and I just put in A Bug's Life DVD and a
message window came up saying this DVD is another region than what your DVD

more times...etc., etc.
Can anyone explain this. Should I change it

Hey... I have a BW with a G4-500, when do you want to meet?
Seriously, pickup a mac-mini for $500 and have both. You will regret
swapping the powerbook. I had a 520 powerbook (yes an old 68xxx) that I
regret sometimes for selling on E-Bay. I spent more on cables (scsi,

Mainly just day to day general use, web, e-mail, web design, listening to music.

If I had an extra $500 I WOULD pick up a mini. Unfortunately we are
not all so financially blessed and I need a machine to sit at home to
do more server/dvr work. The portability is not really an issue for
me.

Personally I feel the 13in problems are overstated - a loose cable that can
be easily fixed with tape is the only screen issue I've seen in a dozen of
them.
I agree with the 12in FTSN, if you intend running X.

If you need a desktop and you are cash strapped (join the club) I would

Hello All
My father in law reports that his Wallstreet battery is getting weak.
Can anyone recommend a source for new batteries?
I'll try Battery Reset but would like options in case it's actually
expired.

As you may recall I just lost the L2 cache on my 400 Mhz Lombard.
I have offers of replacement cards from a few list members but there are

The most notable change is a high pitched whistle when I put the
computer to sleep.

Hi Lawrence,
I have had lots of PB's (Mac PowerBooks right?) over the years, but a
few months ago, I got a new iBook, also my first with the wireless
option. So I got an Apple Airport Express base for at home, which is a
neat little thing. I have already taken the iBook with me to hotels and
A little update... I just got a mail from the guy I bought it from, and
he thinks the problem with my iBook is that the backlight is broken.
Seems very logical to me too. Anybody know if this has been a problem in
other iBooks?
He had not sent in the papers registering the computer over to my

Forgive me for jumping in and if I am now posting about something

I just want to say thanks for all the great tips on these things. I am
going to the US this summer too, and for the first time I am thinking of
bringing my computer with me. The iBook is just so great and light, so
it would be great having it, also to download pictures to etc.
Aase :)

You shouldn't need a password if it's a public place. Most times you
need a password are your own network sometimes and if you're at an
office with a closed wireless. But for a library, you should be able
to just tap in... make sure you look for weirdos before you do any
parking though. ;-)
I use File Synchronization. You can clone folders, copy one way or both
ways or select single files to keep synced. You can have it delete orphaned
files or not. I've been using it between my AlBook and my G4 tower for about
a year with no problems.
