My only guess would be that when you merged the new kernel source, portage copied your old .config file from /usr/src/linux. Just guessing though - I've never used emerge to install kernel source (I don't really see any advantage to it), I just go to kernel.org and get the vanilla source there.

[gentoo-user] Version mismatch between imagemagick & perlmagick in x86

It seems like imagemagick 5.5.7.15 is marked "x86", while perlmagick 5.5.7.15 is marked "~x86" - this causes a weird update loop because perlmagick depends on the same version of imagemagick. If you have both perlmagick and imagemagick 5.5.6-r1 installed, an emerge -uD world will upgrade imagem
