Hi All I have a pentium 90 with 16 mb of ram running Red Hat 6.0. Performance for anything not requiring x windows is quite good, but anytime I try to run anything with a gui, the machine just crawls along, and I hear the hard disk thrashing like crazy. This isn't just bad I'm talking about here,

Matt, I saw this type of thing happen quite often under 5.1/5.2 (it may still be a problem with 6.0/6.1 too, but I haven't played with it). Usually what I saw was that you had to stop all nfs, then stop anything related to portmap/rpc stuff, then start them all back up in the proper order. T
