There's a circuit board on the arm near the barcode scanner that controls the movement and orientation of the arm. If that circuitboard malfunctions, then you can see some of the erratic behavior that you are describing. That's one possibility I can think of that might cause that kind of problem

We have been having issues with our Autostainer since bringing it out of storage. All parts are in excellent shape, according to the technician that performed the PM. It worked fine for a month of so, but then began malfunctioning after only a couple of staining runs.
