Hello Mike,
is there any chance to get CS:S on the old engine or is that only a question
about time, when you port
it to the new engine?

Try blocking whatever connection the tool is making? Perhaps the content

You can also run with the -retry flag (I think it is) to let the update
process keep trying when it hits that error.

Been trying to download the files for the server all day long. I get stuck
at 67.5 % every time and I get the Winsock error - connection reset.
I've tried new folders, redownloading hldsupdatetool, deleting existing
files and starting over, running update over top of existing download, etc.
Help!
Mike, could you please elaborate on how a TF2 server will be started?
Is it the same process of: srcds.exe -game tf
Or is there a new command line style? Which executable do we run, and where
will it be located?
Thanks,
Andrew

So if I get this right the srcds.exe and all the other bin files for TF2
will be located in the orangebox folder? And that the games in the orangebox

Right now the only game that will use the Orange Box engine is TF2. For
now the other games will stay in their usual locations, but they will be
moved to the new engine in the coming weeks and at that point their
binaries will reside under the 'orangebox' directory.

Yes, the clients will be moved to the new engine as well when the server

The issue here is the location of the game binaries in relation to the
/bin directory that contains the *correct* engine binaries. Previous to
this new directory structure the assumption was that only one version of
the engine could exist under a single installation. So the location of

The most significant fact here is that there have been interface changes
so it is probable that many server plug-ins that work with CSS, DoD, and
HL2MP will not work with the Orange Box engine. Once the beta is out the

interface change
I just meant as soon as the DS depot is ready we'll make it available

the client.

The possibilities about the TF2 config would interest me, too..
Are there special settings? Like class limits for example?

So we will all have to repoint any mappings to "orangebox" for CSS and

not just let us put everything in the directory name we so choose

That is strange Brandon because mine has /hl2 and /orangebox in the main
directory. I do not have a /tf folder.

When you mean live, you mean as in tomorrow morning with the release of the
client?
Cheers,

It will be a new srcds.exe, we just haven't made the depot containing

Yes, the TF (Orange Box) engine is not compatible with the one that is
presently used for CSS, DoDS, and HL2MP. That is why we are segregating
it into the the 'orangebox' directory under the root. In the coming
months the other games will be moved to the Orange Box engine and their

Hmm, my pre-load seems to have an 'orangebox/tf' folder and a 'tf' folder in
the root directory. Both have the same content, which one of these is going to
be used? Why would it download the /tf folde

Only because you cheated! Having a content server in your closet = cheating.

Can you expand on this please Mike are you going to be running different
exe etc so this is not just a mod of the current source engine like cstrike
or dod?
If this is the case we us GSP's will need to treat it as a totally new
game and not just a simple mod is why I ask.
