Hey Guys!
Just wondering if anyone knows when the HL2 Linux Dedicated Server
files are likely to be out to download - want to make sure to get a
server up as soon as possible!

yea they're already available, multiplayer HL2 is Counter-Strike Source,
so '-game Counter-Strike Source' will download it. Gotta specify a
different install directory to HLDS though =)

HL² doesn't come out with a multiplayerpart like in HL1.
The multiplayerpart / server is already published:

Halfd relies on the hlds_run script, which is not available in source
servers. It reads several variables from that file and the
environment. I'm sure the halfd perl script could be edited, however
until that's done, it's not compatible.
Actually, halfd bypasses the hlds_run script (there is

So I JUST updated my source server.
I have 2 server processes running on the same machine, ./hlds_run (CS
1.6) and ./srcds_run (CS:S).
It's a 3Ghz machine with 512Mb.
I have noticed my pings under 1.6 (running with -pingboost 1) are normal
(100 ms average).
BUT, When I had some players test out
Simply allowing root access via ssh (assuming u mean from a different
machine, not so bad if limited to a subnet or something I suppose if
thats part of the process) is enough to wave a huge red flag. I would
urge anyone to turn that off (in /etc/sshd/sshd_config) given the
recent attempts out

There needs to be some decent flood control built in to the server for
stuff like this. Chat spamming and things like this where people are
spamming name changes etc just
no, look at the timestamps.
