Hi Mara,
I really like Orlando's idea. Even if this meatball's name is Luca Brazzi,
look what the Tataglia family did to him with the ice pick and piano

Dear Steve,
Thanks - couple of good resources. The answer to your question, is that the

The solution I use on the entrance of the high B flat in the first horn part in
the second movement is a trick I learned from Louis Stout. Remove the 1st valve

One must intimidate first, I guess. Besides, the ice pick and piano wire is a
bit too "Italian". (unless this kid's name is Luca). I would bet Hans has a
more clever method.

Believe it or not, If college students actually did what you suggest, they
would, at least in my state, be sent to prison, as "hazing" as we call it, is a
criminal offense. No Hans, we would rather drug them then humiliate them.

Hi Mara and Karen,
I sent out the following link to my horn students (and student brass quintet

year, and said it was important to read and digest. It is to the section on

While I understand the concept here, I'm not sure that's the best solution.
I certainly wouldn't want any negative stigma associated with playing 4th

Mara,
One of the things that will work is to make less mistakes. I'm not saying that

We don't have a 4th horn anyway... Yes, we're that limited. Most of the time
lately, it's just the 2 of us as the 3rd horn has been out, tending to his ill
wife. 2nd horn doesn't usually act like that around 3rd horn, but you know
he's still stirring about it.
