Actually AFAIK, System/R was the first relational database
implementation, done in IBM research in the late 1970s. SQL/DS was the
first productized version (it ran on VM) and DB2 showed up on MVS/XA a
little later - circa 1983.
Model 204 came out in 1973 (or 4).
The only reason I know this is
Model 204 is relational-like, but I think it was developed before Codd
published his relational model.
It was also changed to match the model.
And, SQL support was added circa 1990.

Well, SDSF help is a little perverse
PF1 from the ST panel, then choose Action Characters, (not Line
Commands).
I got // thru CDA with PF7 -UP but NOT PF8- Down, so I didn't see
the REST of the action characters. CUA navigation WAS PF7/PF8, I missed
the Enter key for the next panel.
I think you're close to the cause. The temp data set does not get deleted
until step end, but if the appl closes the file and reopens it, then all
bets are off.

SORTWKnn datasets I absolutely agree. Having to Remote Copy your SORTWKnn
datasets so that Hiperswap will operate will degrade performance many
magnitudes greater than turning CFW off in the controller.
