Seems to me that the real problem here is with the originating site. If the

On my VM Download Site ( http://zvm.sru.edu/~download ) I always use
DMSPLU to make the date of the VMARC file be the same as the latest
file it contains.
For those unfamiliar with DMSPLU the syntax is:
DMSPLU fn ft fm mm/dd/yy hh:mm:ss
/Fran Hensler at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania
Yes, DMSPLU is nice for that (I sometimes do the same), but, as mentioned,
once you download it, that date gets wiped out, and if you then upload to a
VM system, using FTP or PCOMM, that date gets wiped ot in its turn...
Only ALMCOPY preserves file dates when exchanging files between VM and PCs,

Disk accounting records...what to do with them.
Is there anything in VM that will allow you to process these records and if so
where and what is it.
I've been asked to do something like offload these records and clean up
accounting's A/191 disk.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
hello VM listeners,
For the past week i am looking for an exec called GONE which i used long
time ago but lost since then.
Perhaps one of the VM oldtimers still have a copy of it somewhere.
It was very handy as an engine to respond to all kinds of interferences
while the cms userid was in
Hi Ben,
If you're really part of IBM, then you should be able to find GONE
EXEC on the internal VMTOOLS disk. I don't think it has ever been put
on an external site of VM tools. It is pretty old - the level out
there dates to 1991.

When I installed z/VM 5.2 and 5.3, they both required one (1) 3390-9

Can I use the same configuration with z/VM 5.4 (one 3390-9 540RES and

Yes, that will work fine. It is best that all paging volumes are the
same type (i.e. mod 3) and actually using mod 3s for paging gives VM
more devices to use and lets it do more paging in parallel. Just make
sure your page space usage is 50% or less - if it grows above that,
add more paging
I am currently running z/VM 4.4 on a 2066-003 with the following OS/390 guests:
4 @ 2.5
1 @ 2.8
2 @ 2.9
5 @ 2.10
Does anybody see a compatibility problem in upgrading to either z/VM 5.3 or 5.4
and running those versions of OS/390?
Thank you,

According to Romney White of z/VM Design:
z/VM will support OS//390 V2R8 if and only if OS/390 V2R8 is supported on

Hi
The volumes are defined as mini disks in the directory entry for the

As long as you left it RUNNING in the bottom right hand corner of the
screen, having issued at some point since logon, (perhaps in the PROFILE
EXEC), you should be good to SSH in right away.

If it works (which it should) you have your answer.
But if you followed the instructions, you changed your NOVSTART root
password immediately.
So try that one, if the default fails.

I don't believe you'll be asked for a password -- just enter root for the

No offense to Rick Troth, but that isn't the real GONE. Wayne Preism of
the IBM WSC wrote GONE in the early 80's and it's different than Rick's.
