Thanks Mark, Dave and Thomas. But should I add XSTORE too. We use z10. And
there is no difference between storage and xstorage.
Or RES already includes the xstore ?

TCP/IP can be configured to dispatch device driver "work" on non-base CPUs
by coding the CPU option on the DEVICE statement in PROFILE TCPIP.
Other than that it won't do anything with multiple processors.

Hi Folks,
Following up on our earlier discussion of multiple virtual CPU's for
Linux, will TCP/IP and/or SFS servers use multiple processors?
Here's my situation, I have 1 general purpose CP (about 421 MIPS) and 2
IFLs (about 500 MIPS each). We have excess capacity on the IFL side of

The number of 4KB resident pages is given by the RES= value; to convert
that value to MB, simply divide it by 256, e.g. 256771/256 = 1003 MB)

I would have thought that a directory entry of some sort would have been the
choice - a "if it isn't in the directory, it can't be done" sort of thing. The
DEFINE is class G meaning anybody can do it at any time, even though they do
not know what they are doing. (I am sure nobody would ever thin

Hi Rob,
I'm inclined to agree with you re: virtual CPU count should not exceed
physical CPUs - since the maximum number of ACTIVE virtual CPUs can
never exceed the total number of physical CPUs. Thanks for the
comments, I think I'll cut that number down accordingly. :)

Our main production environment is VM/CMS (with DB2, ESAWEB, huge SFS

LINUX is the only workload on the IFLs, and we (presently) have only one

I actually scoured the z/VM 5.4 doc looking for a documented method of
doing this, but did not find anything specific. I had assumed it would
probably be the CPU directory record that we would use to do this, but
that did not turn out to be the case.
