Am I the only one to notice that Kevin is back in the thick of things in
the Java 3D Forum after a hiatus :-) ? And should we not be saying Welcome
Back, and also take that as a hint for Sun's renewed commitment to Java

I wanted to raise a few indisputable facts about Java3D to help reassure
people that Java3D has a real/serious future.

how LONG that has taken? Do you think Jobs would have done this unless
he got someone at SUN to swear on t
It is certainly true that Java 3D has been scaled back considerably from
the level of effort prior to November 2001. The API has been in a
holding pattern since March 2002. What we announced in March of this
year is a renewed commitment to Java 3D, and our intention to make the

And also if somebody would have posted that J3D was discontinued - now we

This "wrong" information was started with posts by Java3D TEAM members
on this list as very long time ago. I still remember that day in Nov
2001 I got news that they were closing J3D down. So do not blame people
that just report what was posted here officially. They started the "J3D

If it is not true, the host of j3d.org should remove it from the j3d
website, because so far some people like me regard j3d as the official
information source for j3d.
By the way
The demanding to remove this wrong information isn't new but j3d.org seems
not to be interested in it :-(
You can find my own (small) J3D-related website at
http://java3d.virtualworlds.de . It contains several information, is
english-"speaking" but there is a focus on information in german too.

A lot has happened since June 2003, including a renewed emphasis
by Sun on the desktop, so it is possible that both are true. As to:

Does this information have to be true only because it can be read in the
internet? I'd think such an information must be correct only if it can be
read somewhere on sun.com, java.com or java.net

Hm, don't think thats true. Sun makes things OpenSource which seem to be
dead (e.g. JSDT).
In this case, the license will not be *really* free. Still only Sun
t are we supposed to think in that time?
