This "information" is completely wrong, weeks after that bullshit was
announced there the Buglist was maintained and Sun-employees which are
responsible for J3D posted here in the J3D mailainglist.

The information that further development of J3D was stopped is wrong -
elsewhere there wouldn't be plans for version 1.4, plans for making it
open source and

Hi, if yes, how do you explain the following I got from
http://www.j3d.org/faq/intro.html#future
2. What is the future of Java 3D?
Right now, it is in a holding pattern but at least we have some information
to work on. In July 2003, Sun sacked the two remaining fulltime developers.

I'm fairly sure I read both pieces of information on this site, both sourced from an
address that appeared to be a sun on. Maybe it was a question of embittered developers
who have just been made reduntant but for the following three months or so Sun said
nothing about the matter, so what are we

Hm, don't think thats true. Sun makes things OpenSource which seem to be
dead (e.g. JSDT).
In this case, the license will not be *really* free. Still only Sun
Let's wait for the JavaOne 2004 meeting, then we will know...

It appears that the j3d.org site posted the information about the team
getting "sacked". Don't know the source of that information. However,
Kevin (from Sun) has posted that the J3D team from Sun will be at
JavaOne and will be hosting a BOF and manning a booth.
So, it seems like the info on j3d.org
Does this information have to be true only because it can be read in the
internet? I'd think such an information must be correct only if it can be
read somewhere on sun.com, java.com or java.net

You mean Sun is still doing Java3D development within their team, and not
going to make it open source? so confusing? from this link:
http://www.j3d.org/faq/intro.html#future
"In July 2003, Sun sacked the two remaining fulltime developers.
Nothing was heard for 6 months."
The above is wrong info
If it is not true, the host of j3d.org should remove it from the j3d
website, because so far some people like me regard j3d as the official
information source for j3d.
By the way, are there any more java 3d websites?
Thanks

A lot has happened since June 2003, including a renewed emphasis
by Sun on the desktop, so it is possible that both are true. As to:

The demanding to remove this wrong information isn't new but j3d.org seems
not to be interested in it :-(
You can find my own (small) J3D-related website at

I don't know of any Java3d websites aside from j3d.org that have seen any updates over

Those were different posts, some time later. J3d has hung in the balance for a while,
and understandably so- how has it's existence really benefited sun? They are in
business to make a profit, rather than to make us developers happy.
My view would be that the guys who run j3d.org are pretty busy
It is certainly true that Java 3D has been scaled back considerably from
the level of effort prior to November 2001. The API has been in a
holding pattern since March 2002. What we announced in March of this
year is a renewed commitment to Java 3D, and our intention to make the
source code availabl

Hello,
I want to extrude a shape along a line path with several steps.
