Hi David
A few years ago at a Congress in either Denmark or Germany we saw one of the
suppliers working on a project which required some 4000 [continental]
bobbins [not sure if my husband misunderstood the number when he asked how
many - but there was an awful lot of them] - she managed them be
Hi to all
Amidst the final preparations before family begin to arrive I just wanted to
say thank you to everyone who has participated on arachne over the past
year, there is such a wealth of knowledge out there and it's a great way
sharing that knowledge - thank you to Liz for getting it going
Why would it be wonderful to move arachne to 'ning?' whatever that may be.
Leave arachne alone it's just fine where it is thank you. If you want what
ever 'ning' has to offer then set up an independent group on it and those
who wish to use it can do so.
And thank you Avital for stepping in whe
I went onto the website too, I have no French so it was initially a little
daunting, then I noticed that I wasn't viewing the whole page so moved it
around and found at the very top right four/five flags and clicked onto the
UK one, and hey presto the pages were translated into English - no prob
Have found this thread about Caspar Netscher and Johannes Vermeer most

interpretation/meaning on them something which I find quite fascinating.
But it has made me wonder if anyone knows where in the world, which

Hi Diana
The research you have put into identifying the lacemakers in the postcards
and about their lives has been fascinating, so can you please share this
snippet of information with the rest of us, I'd like to add it to my own

Hi all
Have been reading the spangles / spangling thread.
My understanding has been that East Midlands bobbins began life unspangled
and they tended to be slimmer and shorter in earlier years, then as thread
gradually became thicker, (perhaps the change from s to z twist thread also
played a p
I've received some lovely postcards over the summer from Antje in Spain,

weeks ago now, have arrived at their destinations safely.
Thank you one and all and especially Pene for organising the postcard

Hello
I have two travel pillows, both of which I love working with. One made from
a converted DIY electric drill case, great to work on but limited to narrow
edgings or small motifs. It had become very worn down from use and need to

Hi all
As some of you know I've been working on a book "Suffolk Lace and the

major technical problems, which neither the printers, numerous
computer/printer technicians and various others have been able to fathom,

Hello all
I appreciate that this is not lace related, but having been through a very
traumatic few weeks and still immersed in trying to recover our money I
would just like to warn anyone who is considering the purchase of, or who
has, in recent months purchased an Optoma digital projector, to
Hi Devon
I was at the V&A just 4/5 few weeks ago for an appointment, and in our break
at lunch time we went along to the lace room but it was closed.
We asked about why and were told that because of its location within the
museum, if they are short of staff for "room watching" (can't think of the

Hi all
This is lace related in a manner of speaking - I'm desperately trying to get
my presentation prepared for a Lace Day in September when I launch my book
on Suffolk Lace and it is becoming very stressful.

I use the same method as mentioned in other messages for inserting bookmarks
(using a folded piece of thin card) but I usually cut the tassle short on
the piece of lace itself. I then use a hole punch to make a hole at the base
of the plastic sleeve and use the left over thread from the bobbins
Can anyone tell me which museum or art gallery the painting by Steven van

Hello all
I've recently acquired two replica bobbins and I'm wondering if anyone can

Hi all
Interesting one this, a couple of years ago I was given a collection of old

I discovered last year when stopping off in Calais that there was to be a

Ipswich, Suffolk. Have you ever been along to a Suffolk Lacemakers Lace Day?
