Andy, You raise another good point a story why we should remain cautious regarding consideration of bumps, humps and tables. Even the low profile of a “table” requires a truck to downshift and then up shift. And, as noted in one of Margaret’s links, all require adequate sightline and lighting.

There are “speed bumps” and “speed tables”. Speed bumps are indeed noisy. Speed tables are low and flat and thus much easier on suspensions and ears. I don’t believe anyone is proposing speed bumps rather than speed tables. Here is a nice description of speed tables:
