The cache
I've got a linux guest that is pushing the wall, 17 megs free and dropping.
Swapping is going to be inevitable. The problem is that the memory usage
growth is slow, and that cache grows to 110 meg before we start to approach
the wall. Will SLES8 start to release or clean the cache before swapping

Hi Ralph,
Is the DASD on your MP2003 reachable from your VM system? If so, why not do
the Debian build under VM, shake it out, and then just IPL it on your
MP2003? If that's not possible, still shake it out under VM then create a
DDR of the Linux DASD and copy it to your MP2003 via tape.

I have used SLES8 SP3 to export to an AIX 5 system without problems. I
did need to make sure that the insecure option was specified in the exports
file. For example:
/software *(rw,insecure,no_root_squash)
Richard
I've used SLES 8 sp 3 32bit for exporting to Sun and HP with no
problems.

Hello,
we have zLinux running on VM as SAP R/3 app servers. One 2G Vsize
(production) and 5 1G Vsize (test/QA) machines in an 10G lpar. I noticed
that our production machine tends to try to pull all it's storage below
the bar. While the effect is not really bad, it looks like a thrashing
scenario
Thanks Jeremey, we tried that one. :-(
The issue looks like a network one at this time. Just wanted to make
sure someone has actually done this before.
Cheers.

Just a guess but you probably are getting insecure port messages on linux
guest (/var/log/messages)
if so try changing your exports file to include insecure option:
i.e.
/tmp/mnt/testnfs*(ro,insecure,root_squash,sync)
Has to do with aix using ports < 1024... We didn't have a need for a
Hi Maneesh,
HCM is a piece of software you run on a PC that interfaces with HCD under
z/OS. It is optional and personally have not seen it at any of my
accounts.
HCD is a function coming with z/OS that you are obliged to use when
building IODF (I/O Definition File) which are used by z/OS as it IPL

They *are* the same. Based on what you buy from IBM they may be
configured as IFL or spare. Neither runs z/OS and that cuts down the
software bill.

The Hardware Management Console is the console where
you can manage the LPAR in term of IPL and ACTIVATION
and where you can check the right functions of the

The HCD main screen is available only on z/OS and on
z/VM 4.4 if you are using it to manage Linux images.
