Hi,
Is it possible to create the initial file system on disk instead of CD-ROM or TAPE?
If yes, how?

Hello,
If you mean IPL then definitely yes.
However before getting into IPL through a DASD, one has to remember that
although we can do IPL from a DASD, the device would not be usable in
LINUX later. One has to run the command DASDFMT to get the disk

Thanx, but where can I find an example of this job?

Ok; all you need for VSE is going to be the minimum DOSRES/SYSWK1

That sounds like the part that is configuring VTAM and CICS for local
terminal support. You'll need a local terminal for telnet access, so
that you can get in to ICCF to use OSA/SF.

The MP3K can do that, I wasn't aware that the MP2K could. In either
event the IOCP would need to be set up to use the emulated channel and

You'll some way to get jobs to and from the system, so that the card can

jobs to start OSA/SF and communicate with the card are in ICCF.

echo add device range=0123 | /proc/dasd/devices

That's not the problem, it is already there. Linux doesn't know what to
do with it cause it doesn't have the correct label format.
Instead of thinking its an eckd as in dasd[eckd] it comes back with
dasd[diag]

We moved to SAS on LINUX on Intel running Suse 9.0. Runs like a champ,
with a Gb connection the SMF downloads quickly. The Intel version was
about 75% less expensive than the mainframe version. Since SAS is such
a CPU consumer, it doesn't seem like it is a very good candidate for
mainframe
I don't think there is either. SAS is a CPU hog. It make more sense to run it on
Linux/Intel accessing NFS mounted data.
