I see another problem. The 3c509b is an isa nic. It will not be detected by
the server. Also, the 3c509b is isa pnp; isa pnp has to be turned off. As
Jake points out, if the nic is in fact a 3c905b, it should be detected
because the 3c905b is a pci nic.

I have a LTSP installation of 3 terminals used by 6 persons. It would be

Hi
I can only get the login screen for the clients when the server is

How can I get the login screen on the client side with the server

Thanks Alvaro
Has anyone ever tested the VXL thin clients? I'm testing one now, and
the specs are impressive for the price. They have a $300 model that
supports ICA, RDP and X (!) out of the box, with a $260 on the way. The
$300 model (the Netica Lite) also has smart card support and encrypted

The reason we are using the PXELINUX boot method is because we don't want to

Okay, the workstations *never* "have no names".
They get an IP address from the DHCP server. If you define their IP
addresses, then each one has a known IP address.
When their hostname is looked up (through either "reverse-DNS lookups"
or lts.conf), they have a name.
So, define all of your work

Its only one terminal that is crashing the system
I think thasts because of low phisical memory or... low swap memory in
lts.conf
cause the user said that only crashes when he try to open large XSC

How do I add workstations to the hosts file, when the stations have no names.
I am using the PXELINUX boot method, and therefore the "Setting hostname" line
during the workstation bootup doesn't have any name?

Another idea:
If it happens weekly, it might be a script in /etc/cron.weekly which is
killing that process for some reason, what have you got in that

Hi,
First a bit of background: a zombie process cannot be killed, it is
already dead, it usually means that the process which created it died
unexpectedly and couldn't terminate its child processes. the INIT
process should then inherit the child process and wipe it out of the

Just a note about managing SMB, you should have a service somewhere

Your server must be running KDM, in order for XDMCP to work.
If you are not running "graphical login", your server is most likely not
running KDM. (Try "ps ax | grep kdm").
You can actually run KDM without running "graphical login", but this is
more tricky, so most people don't do this right awa
Could this be a name-resolution issue?
I have known one case in which NFS services took a very long time to
start, because of improper DNS configuration. If the Internet
connection was down, DNS requests would fail quickly, and NFS was happy.
How are /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf, and named worki
Just a thought, although i have all the required files for running KDE on

will this make a difference?

It seems that your server is not answering XDMCP requests. Have you

Logically, if you have edited dhcpd.conf and *restarted dhcpd* (I forget
